LeadingAge Arizona Advocacy Information
From its inception, LeadingAge Arizona has been at the forefront of political action and public policy development in Arizona. You’ll notice our advocacy efforts reflect a dedication to developing a continuum of healthcare, housing and services. One that’s affordable, efficient and delivers quality housing, care, and services to all of Arizona’s senior citizens. The LeadingAge Arizona Board of Directors and Policy and Governmental Affairs Committee, with input from our membership, craft comprehensive Annual Advocacy Strategic Plans to guide the Association during the Legislative Session and throughout the year. With the help of our lobbyist, Don Isaacson, and an effective grassroots network, LeadingAge Arizona manages to maintain a significant presence in both the legislative and regulatory arenas.
LeadingAge Arizona provides members with timely legislative and advocacy updates, bill-status summaries, legislative hearing and committee meeting outcomes, and grassroots initiatives through Capitol Pace (a legislative update now sent via email), special alerts and other member communications.
Our goal is to create a strong defense against any legislative or regulatory proposals that would jeopardize members’ ability to continue to provide quality healthcare, housing, and services to Arizona’s senior citizens in a way that’s efficient and cost effective. We strongly encourage member contact with Arizona state legislators through Contact Your Legislator. And so far our approach has worked – we’ve had many successes during regular and special Legislative Sessions.
LeadingAge Arizona’s advocacy efforts also nicely complement the public policy initiatives of our parent organization, LeadingAge (formerly American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging). Our leaders, staff, and members maintain ongoing relationships with the Arizona Congressional delegation through member visits to Capitol Hill, use of Contact Congress, LeadingAge’s direct online advocacy initiative, and other communications. We also work closely with LeadingAge to keep members informed through regular, detailed updates on National HUD housing, assisted living, retirement housing and nursing home public policy initiatives and programs.
